VoIP Technology

VoIP Technology stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol Technology. It is a method of voice communication over the Internet using IP addresses. While it’s not a brand new method of communication (it was actually conceived in the 1990s), it has become mainstream over the last 5 years, mainly through the widespread use of free instant chatting programs such as Skype. As a result, you’ve probably been using VoIP Technology for the last couple of years without even realizing it.

However, the use and function of VoIP has been changing in recent years. Originally aimed at individuals for primarily personal use, many companies that offer VoIP services are now turning their focus onto businesses and helping them integrate the technology for the purposes of business communication. This represents a large shift in the market and potential for Voice Over IP Technology in our daily lives. Over the next couple of years, we should expect to see Ip Telephony take off in all realms of our lives, which can only be good, given the benefits associated with it.

Due to the fact that VoIP Technology uses the Internet in order to facilitate communication, it makes calls generally cheaper and in some cases much cheaper. As a consequence, voice technologies are quickly replacing the traditional telephone and we are seeing many traditional telecommunications companies adopting the technology in order to remain competitive. The days where it would cost you more than a dollar a minute to make an international phone call look set to be confined to the history books once and for all.

Whether you like it or not, this type of technology is set to become a bigger part of our lives and we must be prepared to embrace it. VoIP Technology will not disappear for many, many years to come.
