Spyware Protection
As the internet continues to grow, the importance of getting Spyware Protection also increases. Chances are that you might be already infected with spyware and are unaware of its presences. This is one of the fundamental characteristics that all spyware share, to be invisible to the infected host. Additionally, this attribute also contributes to its name consisting of the prefix ‘spy’ which generally means bad for us but good for the person that placed it there.
But what can spyware actually do? Spyware can be utilized to perform numerous devastating activities that could potentially ruin a person’s life. You may have heard of instances where people have got their usernames, passwords and credit card details stolen over the Internet. Certain spyware softwares have this ability to record each key stroke that the user enters onto the computer or more specifically just the internet browser they are using. This type of spyware is known as a ‘key logger’. Once it has recorded your personal and secret information it then will transmit the contents back to an unknown location chosen by person that built the spyware. Chances are that this person will either use the details themselves or sell the information in a black market auction. These examples of a spyware’s potency illustrate the need for Spyware Protection. Using internet security tools such as antivirus can help to prevent spyware infecting your system.
Additionally, other spyware software has also been known to leave backdoor entrances or ports for unauthorised users to access the vulnerable computer. Here is a list of activities that unauthorised users are able to perform once they get into your system:
- view, copy and steal documents
- install further malicious software
- change and delete documents
- install key loggers
- disable your internets access
- uninstall software such as drivers which are used to run CD drives, printers and even your monitor.
Spyware can also be used for good purposes instead of bad. A perfect example would be to monitor your child’s online activities. You don’t want son or daughter to viewing explicit adult material or talking to strangers on chat rooms. Whatever your purpose is don’t underestimate the value of installing some type of Spyware Protection onto your computer.
