Network Security
Here is a list of sites concering Network Security that you may find useful:
While the term may seem to appear fancy and technical, Network Security is simply another term for computer security. Ever since the advent and growth in popularity of the Internet, securing your computer and its valuable (and perhaps confidential) information from unauthorized access has become essential. The increase in security has coincided with the increase of information available on the Web.
Today, major online institutions such as banks and payment services rely on Network Security and web servers to deliver a secure and reliable service to their clients. It has become vital not only for customers’ protection but for businesses if they are to succeed and gain the trust of customers.
Types of Computer Network Breaches
There are 4 types of Network Security breaches that are commonplace.
At the top of the list is viruses, which comes as no surprise. It is so prevalent that you would find it difficult to find anyone in the world who hasn’t been attacked by one. Both the number and cost of viruses to individuals and businesses is rising quickly, rendering Network Security even more important.
In second place on the list is denial-of-service attacks. Just in case you don’t know what this fancy term means, here’s a quick definition: Sending more requests than what a host machine can handle. So if a host could only answer 25 requests per second, a denial-of-service attack or DOS attack would occur if you send it 50 requests per second. While this type of security breach has decreased in recent years, it’s still something that cannot be ignored.
Coming in third place on the list is data theft. The arrival of digital storage devices such as the Ipod, flash drives and even digital cameras has led to a huge increase in this type of Network Security breach. What’s stopping an employee downloading a company’s entire database onto their Ipod to use on their next job? What’s stopping company secrets from being let out into the open by an enraged employee? A simple computer backup will not be enough to fix data theft. This is something many companies forget to take into account in their Network Security.
In fourth place is what is known as wireless network abuse. There are more wireless networks today than ever before, increasing both the ease with which we can get access to the Internet as well as the ease with which people can get unauthorized access to information. The problem arises when an unauthorized person gains access to a company’s wireless network allowing them to access confidential information. There are still many who have yet to apply Network Security to their wireless networks.
There’s no doubt that security is more important than ever before if you want to have peace of mind on your computer. The true cost of not embracing Network Security is never on the price tag.
