Server Backup
Any type of Server Backup is necessary in all organizations. The information found on servers is not only important in the sense that it’s holds a lot of data but the fact that most business won’t be able to function without data makes it vital. Furthermore, this data can also be worth large amounts of money, typically in the thousands of dollars if not millions of dollars.
There are many ways to backup a server and it depends on its importance, cost and convenience. Types of Server Backup include:
- offsite backup
- onsite backup
- backup servers
Offsite Backup
Using an offsite backup can be expensive but is the most secure form of backup available. By storing data in another physical location it greatly reduces the risk of both the original and backup data being destroyed at the same time. Just say if there was a fire that destroyed all servers and backup data in the building, your company would be able to access data from the offsite location and keep business up and running in a short amount of time. Another form of offsite backup that is becoming increasing popular is the use of online backup. As technology improves this type of backup will become more effective for larger business.
Onsite Backup
Onsite backup involves storing backup copies of server data within the same physical location of where the original servers are located. They don’t have to be in the same room, just in the same building. This type of backup makes backing up convenient because the backup data is never too far away when it is needed. This said data can be backed up in just minutes.
Backup Servers
Backup servers are similar to onsite backups. Instead of the data being kept in secondary storage devices such as tapes it is kept within a server. This is convenient because when the original server fails all there needs to be done is to reroute the path to the backed up server.
Losing server data will cause companies large amounts of money and stop its normal functionality. For this reason it is vital for all companies to gain some form of Server Backup to avoid this risk.
