Backup
Backup is a concept that can be applied in various domains in life. We devise Backup plans just in case our original plan does not go the way it’s supposed to go. In addition, we often talk about having something to fall back on in case we are not successful in a certain career. In computing, Backup is a concept that has been around ever since we could store data in some type of electronic device. While I’m not sure exactly when this actually took place for the first time, it happened years before companies such as Apple or Microsoft were around.
As the years have gone by, and as technology has become ever more sophisticated, so has the number of Backup options grown in number. The first and oldest storage tool in computing was the hard drive. It is still arguably, the most used storage device around the world, actually this cannot be easily verified. The only problem with this storage option is that you have to purchase another hard drive which is not a possibility for many people.
For this reason, the floppy disk was introduced in order to make Backup both more affordable and portable. Following this, came the CD and DVD which dramatically increased the capacity of data that could be stored and the price at which it could be stored. More recently, online backup has become popular because it requires no physical storage and can be easily accessed from any part of the world at any time.
Can you imagine life without Backup in today’s world?
